Introduction
What the platform is and how to take your first steps.
This platform lets you upload your organisation's documents, index them and then ask them questions in plain language. Instead of matching exact words, the system understands the meaning of what you ask and returns the relevant passages, or an answer written from them.
How it works
The full journey has three steps:
- You create a knowledge base. It is the container where your documents get indexed. Each base has its own embedding model, which turns text into vectors so it can be compared by meaning.
- You upload documents. The platform extracts the text, splits it into passages and indexes each one. The process is asynchronous: you can keep working while it finishes.
- You query. With Search you retrieve the passages closest to your question. With Ask the platform also writes an answer based on those passages.
What you need before you start
An active organisation
All content belongs to an organisation: knowledge bases, documents and credentials are its own and are not shared with any other. The selector at the top of the sidebar shows which one you are working in.
If you do not belong to one yet, you can create it yourself from that same selector, or wait for someone to invite you.
A provider credential
Indexing and answering both require calling an AI model provider with your own account. Before creating your first knowledge base you have to register a credential under Settings → Provider credentials.
A credential's key is only shown at the moment you save it. It cannot be read again afterwards: the platform never returns it. If you lose it, you will have to create a new credential.
Roles and permissions
There are two independent permission axes, and they are easy to confuse:
- Role within the organisation:
owner, adminormember. It decides who can invite people, change settings or delete the organisation. - Platform role: reserved for whoever administers the whole installation. It grants access to the global administration section, with every tenant and user.
Sidebar sections appear or disappear according to these roles: if you cannot see Settings, your
role in the organisation is member.
Next steps
Carry on with Knowledge bases, which explains how to create your first one and what decisions you make along the way.
